OpenText iPrint Appliance is a virtual appliance that offers cross-platform, self-service printing for the enterprise. It allows users to print from their desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. iPrint Appliance supports NetIQ eDirectory, Active Directory, and Microsoft Identity as user identity sources. It scales to fit organizations of any size and provides a single solution to manage the printing needs across multiple locations.
The appliance runs as a virtual machine within any virtualization environment such as VMware, Windows Hyper-V, Citrix Xen Server, or Xen on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).
Micro Focus is now part of OpenText. Products across the portfolio are now rebranded to reflect OpenText or a more appropriate name. This corporate change impacts the name of products and components, user interfaces, logos, and so on. As a result of this corporate change, iPrint Appliance 5.1 is now referred as OES 23.4.
The documentation is being updated in stages to reflect these changes, including names and screenshots. You can still come across references to Micro Focus in the documentation library until all of the manuals are updated.
In order to fetch the printer attributes, iPrint has incorporated the feature enhancement of secure communication through IPP on port 443 between the iPrint gateway and printers. To accomplish this feature, the iPrint gateway by default communicates with printers through IPP.
If the printer is not supporting IPP or if the communication between the iPrint gateway and printers through IPP fails then the printer's attributes are retrieved using SNMP. Beginning with iPrint Appliance 23.4, you must use the product upgrade channel for updating both the iPrint Appliance patches and the appliance OS. For more information, see Updating to iPrint Appliance 23.4 through Product Upgrade Channel in OpenText iPrint Appliance 23.4 Administration Guide.
Printing documents with SmartArt graphics or tables may impact the quality of the printout. It is recommended to deploy Remote Renderer to resolve such issues.
